Agriculture is a critical industry to the State of Ohio. Home to more than 77,000 farms, Ohio flourishes because
of the strong agricultural industry. One in six Ohioans are employed in an agriculturally related career, and the food
and agriculture industry provides more than $79 billion to the state's economy.
Ohio is a leading exporter ranking 13th among all states, exporting more than $1.57 billion annually. Ohio exports
agriculture products ranging from processed food and food ingredients to livestock, hardwoods, fruits, vegetables,
seeds, plants, feed and food grains.
The Division of Markets' international trade program facilitates the export of these products by linking Ohio's
agribusinesses with other businesses, buyers, federal and state programs, industry organizations and international
contacts.
The Ohio Department of Agriculture works closely with the Food Export Association of the Midwest U.S.A. to promote international trade.
Tim Sword, an International Trade Specialist, works with Ohio food and value added agricultural product companies use programs and
services to increase and build their exporting.
